You may be surprised to know that many women’s health issues that may be experienced during a lifetime can be improved with physical therapy. At TEAM Physical Therapy, we work with you one on one to help with a variety of women’s health issues such as incontinence, lymphedema, fibromyalgia, low back pain during and after pregnancy, post breast surgery rehab, pelvic floor dysfunction and pain, and osteoporosis.
For example, pregnancy and delivery have dramatic effects on a woman’s body, and in some cases can lead to pain and dysfunction if not treated. Sometimes women notice persistent problems months after pregnancy and some do not start having problems until years after pregnancy. Following pregnancy and delivery, rehabilitating your core and pelvic muscles is key to returning to your daily tasks.
Our women’s health specialists are skilled in treating postpartum pain or dysfunction, incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, pain during or after pregnancy, impairments associated with menopause or post-hysterectomy, and rehab following pelvic surgery. Your specific condition and impairments will be thoroughly evaluated and treated to restore proper function using various manual techniques, therapeutic exercise, biofeedback, and/or electrical stimulation.
Postpartum physical therapy evaluations are performed anytime after six weeks postpartum. Beginning postpartum physical therapy between six to eight weeks postpartum is ideal for restoring optimal function.
